India
and Denmark signs Social Security Agreement
Oct 22:India and the
Netherlands has signed a Social Security Agreement to facilitate the
movement of professionals between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar
Ravi and Dutch Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Piet Hein
Donner.
‘This agreement will facilitate the movement of professionals
between the two countries,’ said the minister.
The detached workers sent by Netherlands-based companies to their
Indian subsidiaries, or those sent by Indian companies to their
branches in the Netherlands will be exempt from social security
contribution in the host country for a period of 60 months.
‘While working abroad, these employees will only be subject to the
social security regulations of their home country,’ .
This agreement provides that an employed or self-employed person,
other than detached workers shall be subject only to the legislation
of the host country. The agreement provides for portability of the
benefits at the time of relocation.
‘The agreement will come into effect after the fulfilment of the
national requirements,’
India has signed similar agreements with Belgium, France, Germany,
Switzerland and Luxembourg recently.
India Signs MOU with Denmark
Sep 29: India and
Denmark has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Labour
Mobility Partnership to promote orderly migration of Indian workers
to meet the growing demand of workforce in the Danish economy.
‘This is the first MoU on Labour Mobility Partnership with any
European nation,’
According to the MoU, there would be cooperation between the two
countries on ‘labour market expansion, employment facilitation,
organised entry and orderly migration and exchange of information
and cooperation in introducing best practices for mutual benefit’
for qualified workers within their national objectives and the
relevant laws.
It assures ‘equal treatment of workers with the nationals of the
receiving state, undertaking mutually beneficial studies for
recruitment and identifying emerging sectors in Danish economy that
require qualified workers, promoting direct contact between the
employers in Denmark and the state managed or private recruiting
agencies in India, without intermediaries to facilitate regular and
orderly recruitment of workers.’
The MoU also provide ‘protection and welfare of all categories of
workers under the labour laws and other relevant laws of the host
country.’
It also provides for constitution of a Joint Working Group (JWG) of
both the countries.
